CURRICULUM RATIONALE AND STATEMENT
Curriculum Rationale
- The curriculum of Bickershaw Church of England Primary School is designed to provide an excellent broad, balanced education that meets the aims of the National Curriculum 2014 as well as meeting the needs of all our pupils, including the most able; those with SEND and the most disadvantaged; giving the skills, knowledge and understanding to prepare them for their future lives, becoming successful lifelong learners.
- The curriculum is underpinned by curriculum drivers which promote academic success alongside heritage, initiative and possibilities which celebrates our local context, supports the development of the whole child, promotes a positive attitude to learning and instils the value of becoming a self-motivated, responsible citizen. The drivers are led by our whole school vision (see our vision statement) which in turn is rooted in theology, ‘Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever’ (Hebrews 13:8).
- The curriculum celebrates the diversity of the world in which we live, fostering an understanding and tolerance of all faiths, cultures and abilities. It supports the children’s social, moral, spiritual and cultural development and understanding.
- The curriculum will ensure that all will engage, many will shine and those who can excel, do.

PARENT CURRICULUM GUIDE
This guide is intended to support parents of primary school children. Obviously it would be impossible to set out in detail everything your child would learn during their six years of statutory primary education, but by providing an outline of typical content and some background information about how the curriculum and assessment works, hopefully it will help parents support their children in making the most of their education.
KEY SKILLS PROGRESSION
Below are the key skills which children will work towards each year.
