Computing

Safer Internet Day 2020

Children in school thought about how they present themselves online, what information it is safe to share and how to keep safe when using the internet.

Computing at Bickershaw Church of England Primary School

Our overarching aim of Computing at Bickershaw Church of England Primary School is to equip pupils to use computational thinking and creativity to understand and change the world. Computing has deep links with mathematics, science, and design and technology, and provides insights into both natural and artificial systems.

Our Computing curriculum will be underpinned by the drivers of heritage, initiative and possibility.

Heritage

e.g. By learning about the origin of Computer Science and looking up to inspirational thinkers such as Ada Lovelace, Charles Babbage and Alan Turing.

Initiative

e.g. Develop the skills to be critical and creative thinkers when analysing and comparing solutions to a wide range of problems.

Possibility

e.g. By learning about careers in computing, the children will understand the difference they can individually make to the world.

All pupils will become digitally literate – able to use, and express themselves and develop their ideas through, information and communication technology – at a level suitable for the future workplace and as active participants in a digital world.

All children will develop skills to:

  • Understand and apply the fundamental principles and concepts of computer science, including abstraction, logic, algorithms and data representation
  • Analyse problems in computational terms, and have repeated practical experience writing computer programs in order to solve such problems
  • Evaluate and apply information technology, including new or unfamiliar technologies, analytically to solve problems
  • Be responsible, competent, confident and creative users of information and communication technology
