LOOK AT ALL THE WONDERFUL ART WE CREATE AT SCHOOL!

Art Exhibition 2022

Spirited Arts Week 2022

As part of Spirited Arts Week the children have thought carefully about the Christian Values which they feel are important. Each class worked hard to create a collaborative piece of Art to represent their chosen theme. We hope that you enjoy looking at our work in our virtual gallery below.

Well done to all the children for being so involved and creating a beautiful exhibition, which not only demonstrates the key Christian Values but also the wonderful talent that we have in school.

Art and Design at Bickershaw Church of England Primary School

Our overarching aim of Art and Design at Bickershaw Church of England Primary School is to develop and extend pupils visual creativity, curiosity, enquiry and aesthetic sensitivity to the natural and man-made world through a series of well-planned learning experiences.

Our Art and Design curriculum will be underpinned by the drivers of heritage, initiative and possibilities.

  1. Heritage Art & Design stimulates creativity and imagination. It provides visual, tactile and sensory experiences and a unique way of understanding and responding to the world.
  2. Initiative Pupils can use colour, form, texture, and pattern and feel materials and process; to communicate what they see, feel and think.
  3. Possibility to know about great artists, craft makers and designers, and understand the historical and cultural development of their art forms.

All children will develop and extend their visual creativity, curiosity, enquiry and aesthetic sensitivity to the natural and man-made world through a series of well-planned learning experiences.

Our principal aim is to develop the children’s knowledge, skills and understanding in art and design. We ensure that the act of investigating and making something includes exploring and developing ideas, and evaluating and developing work. Pupils will develop their creative ideas in both expressive and craft design contexts and their work will be informed by visual investigation from direct observation and other reference materials. Pupils will develop skills in manipulating a range of art and design media using a diversity of scale. Opportunities will be provided for them to respond to themes and starting points, which will be, planned to develop skills in systematically applying the visual elements of art.

By addressing Art and Design skills as the core of our curriculum, we will ensure that in any key stage children participate in the following principles of Art and Design:

  • Drawing
  • Painting
  • Printmaking
  • Collage
  • Sculpture
  • Textiles
  • 3D design

More detailed information, regarding what is specifically taught in each year group, can be found in our Progression documents at https://www.bickershaw.wigan.sch.uk/virtual-office/school-curriculum-information
